SofTA Corporation Unveils NEW ELSD

The most advanced ELSD is now the smallest.

February 11, 2005 --

The SofTA Model 400 incorporates all the SofTA exclusive technology found in previous models in a smaller case. This ELSD can integrate seamlessly into existing laboratories to replace or complement current HPLC detection. The Model 400 Evaporative Light Scattering Detectors (ELSD) features Thermo-Split technology (patent pending) for precise vapor phase control. This technology provides a continuously variable split ratio allowing optimization for superior sensitivity with virtually all mobile phases, flow rates, and analytes. The Model 400 ELSD features full color touch screen display, built in data acquisition, one button help and automated system diagnostics.

Evaporative light scattering detectors are near universal detectors, primarily used in High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). ELSD’s are replacing ultraviolet (UV) detection because they can detect most analytes, even those that do not absorb UV radiation, are stable during gradient elutions, and respond to the relative mass of the analyte -an important feature that is useful when detecting unknown materials. The ELSD is superior to the refractive index detector (RID); it can be used with gradient chromatography, it is not susceptible to ambient temperature changes, and it does not produce negative peaks, which can be difficult to quantify. The ELSD can be used to obtain more complete component information in one chromatographic run. Add an ELSD to a multiple detector system, UV/Vis, MS and CNC, for the greatest structural and concentration information.
